Education and Consultation

Education

We believe in the power of education and the need for knowledge translation between Indigenous and non-Indigenous spaces. Angie, owner and operator of Phenix Wellness is actively involved in the development of new professional research, the dissemination of information via workshops and presentations, and the development of learning resources for both her clients and peers.

For example Angie Phenix has specialized training in Antiracism and Decolonization. Understanding how systemic oppression functions in various ways in society is key to building or re-building an organization that centers equity and justice.

Since the beginning of her career, Angie noticed the tension and problematic nature of using a Western-based model of practice in Indigenous communities. As an attempt to put words to these feelings, better address health/educational inequities, and become a better OT, she pursued a Masters of Indigenous Education at the University of Saskatchewan.

She is a exemplar in the field of occupational therapy and is heavily involved in local and national groups including the national occupational therapy association in Canada, CAOT. Her work is shifting the profession, improving outcomes for clients, improving recruitment and retention of Indigenous health care professionals and increased competency of non-indigenous therapists.
